About the Event
Dr. Kemba Marshall is here this month discussing the transition between private and corporate veterinary practice and introduces to us Marshall Recruiting Consortium, encouraging attendees to sign up as job seekers.
Dr. Kemba Marshall graduated from the University of Florida in 1999 with a DVM and did a one year private practice internship and then a three year avian/exotic animal residency at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She was in private practice in Dallas TX from 2003-2008. In 2008 she joined PetSmart's corporate headquarters to oversee quality standards for birds and small mammals sold inside PetSmart stores and then was promoted to Director of Pet Quality and Education so the entire quality assurance team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians reported to her. She was there from 2008-2016. In 2016 Dr. Marshall joined Land O Lakes Purina as a Manager of Veterinary Services for their 1700 large animal research facility. In 2017 she was promoted to Director of Veterinary Services. They do everything in terms of wellness (deworming, vaccine protocols) and also assist researchers with nutritional studies. Marshall Recruiting Consortium was founded in 2020 after watching the murder of George Floyd. Dr. Marshall had always known that our profession is not very diverse. “I think an impact of that lack of diversity is that is compounded in corporate vet med roles. My consortium aims to change that by leveraging both my relationships with corporations and my relationships with diverse veterinary populations.”
